On The Road: Allison Bailey - Part Two
Hello babes! I am excited to re-introduce you all to my beautiful Ozian friend Allison Bailey. I first featured her on my blog back in January, and you can check out her On The Road interview by clicking here. In February, while the Wicked tour was in Ft. Lauderdale, I set up a little photoshoot for Allison just for fun with local photographer Joel Henson. I love these pictures of her and absolutely had to feature them on my blog. Below, you can also check out some questions Intern Caitlin and I thought you might like her to answer. I hope you enjoy!
Is there really a height requirement for Glinda?
Oh goodness. I don’t know if height is actually a factor. I think there have been drastic height differences with Glindas through the years.
When you go to an audition do you have to have an equity card? If you don’t have one will they still let you audition?
It depends on the audition! If it is for an EPA (Equity Principal Audition) or ECC (Equity Chorus Call), you have to show the monitor your card when signing in for verification. If you don’t have one or not part of the Union yet, you can still wait until all Equity members are seen if time permits.
What was the audition process like for this show...was it pretty quick or did you have a million rounds of callbacks?
Everyone’s experience is different. Some people hear within the day, and some receive a call within a week. I went through a few rounds of callbacks with the creative team.
What is your best advice about preparing for big auditions?
Being prepared! So much of auditioning is out of my control, but I can always try to give my best work in the room.
Do you remember where you were and what you were doing when you got the phone call that you’d booked the job?
It was about an hour after my last round of auditions, and I had just started my shift at work. I snuck into the back office when I saw my agent calling, and immediately cried. I told my friend (hey Krista), fell to the floor, and made such a scene that a customer had to ask if I was ok . Needless to say, I couldn’t have been more excited and knew my life was about to change.
What is auditioning like in New York City?
I like to think of it as a 9-5 job. Before I was Equity, I would wake up every morning around 4am to sign up open calls that would start at 10am. And after I was seen, I would try to attend another one in the afternoon. Then, I would work my actual jobs on nights, weekends, and when I could pick up a shift in between free time.
What is your craziest audition story?
I was still a senior in college, and took the midnight bus from Boston to NYC for an audition the next morning. I sang in the morning, change clothes, and rode the bus back to Boston for rehearsal that night.
