Kaleigh's NYC Wedding Morning: Part 1
I know this is a Broadway blog but my darling friend and soul sister got married on June 14, 2019 and I want to share it with all of you! Along with loving NYC and Broadway, I have literally been obsessed with weddings my entire life. So it’s been extremely fun and exciting to get to be a bridesmaid in so many friend’s weddings throughout my twenties!
Kaleigh is a close family friend so naturally the whole Dvornik clan was ready to show up for our girl! My mom and little sister wanted to make sure her wedding day was extra special and they both played a big part in making sure Kaleigh’s wedding day was perfect. So I wanted to highlight how the morning of the wedding went down and show you all the little details!
Sometimes it truly takes a small village to pull off a wedding!
When Kaleigh booked her venue she made sure there was a room on site for us to get ready in. Me, being the control freak I am, made sure the venue had enough tables and power outlets to accommodate us. (Always make sure there is room for hair tools, make-up and the food spread!)
Instead of a large bridal party Kaleigh only had me (Maid of Honor) and her three little sisters stand up at the alter with her. Along with the five of us, my mom Stoney (day of wedding coordinator), my little sister Grace, Kaleigh’s mom and step mom got ready with us. Kaleigh hired my friend Rob (he’s a member of the Wicked hair team) to do our hair and make-up and he brought two assistants.
Side note: I firmly believe every bride needs a wedding coordinator the day of their wedding. This coordinator will deal with any venue mishaps and make sure things are set up correctly, deal with crazy family members and keep everyone (bridal party, hair/make-up team, photographer) on schedule. The bride should NEVER have to deal with any craziness on her wedding day. Plus having a coordinator helps the mother of the bride and the maid of honor relax too!
If you’re new to wedding world, getting ready with the bride is an all day event. I don’t understand why, but it is. So Stoney and Grace, wisely, had breakfast and lunch catered in! They made sure to have plenty of food, dessert and beverages for all of us to graze on throughout the day. The day of the wedding is long and it’s important to eat before the big event! Plus getting ready with mimosas just always makes everything better.
As we’ve already established, I am an overly prepared super intense bridesmaid SO obviously I came prepared with lots of supplies. I brought beverages, flowers, straws, cups, napkins, coolers, ice colanders and extra gold glitter plastic champagne flutes that I’d used at the bachelorette party the night before. Oh and extra prosecco because you can never have too much on hand! (My mom doubted me on the extra bubbly but I was righttttttt and we needed it all lol)
Honestly the BEST things I packed with me that day were scissors, wrinkle release spray and my portable steamer. I steamed out literally everyone’s dresses. I mean, I am a Broadway wardrobe professional after-all!
Pro-tip: Don’t buy a cheap portable steamer. They usually spit water, leak, break and just aren’t worth it. Go ahead and invest in a top rated steamer that is going to get the job done and last for years.
We started getting ready at 9am and around 3pm (the wedding started at 4:30) Kaleigh’s girlfriends started to arrive. Kaleigh chose not to have a million bridesmaids but still wanted to see her favorite girls before the ceremony. So Mama Stoney brought out more food and I popped more bottles! Having all of the women Kaleigh is closest to in one room together waiting to see our bride in her wedding dress for the first time was extremely special!
It was such a beautiful day and I hope you’ve enjoyed reliving it with me!
