Home Tour of My New Lower East Side Apartment
Welcome to the first ever home tour on The Backstage Blonde! Since moving into my new apartment last month, I have been completely obsessed with turning it into the coziest and girliest nest in all the land. Because I enjoy ferociously obsessing over every detail of a project until it’s perfect, with help from Burrow, Allswell, Bear Mattress, Bluebird Linens and Onsen, I achieved my goal in record time! I hope you enjoy this little home tour. (Click here for a post about some of my favorite apartment essentials and click here for some moving tips.) Leave me a comment with any questions you have about decorating or the moving process!
Neighborhood:
Lower East Side (Manhattan)
Number of Rooms:
3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom.
How long have you lived there?
Since August 31, 2018!
What do you love most about the neighborhood?
This has been my favorite New York City neighborhood since I first visited a friend here in 2012. I feel safe here, so at home and like I’m walking around in my own little magical village. I love how eclectic and vibrant the Lower East Side is. This neighborhood is young and trendy, so it’s charged with an electric feel while simultaneously being rich with history.
Living Room:
What was your best apartment "score"?
My couch from Burrow! Our living room is tiny so we needed a loveseat with specific measurements. I scoured the internet looking for a couch that was cute, affordable, comfortable AND could be delivered quickly. It was more of a challenge than I expected. When I stumbled on an article about how Burrow makes the perfect couches for millennials, I felt as though the heavens had opened up! Burrow checked all the boxes on my list AND has an excellent customer service team.

Who do you live with?
I live with one of my oldest friends, Kaleigh and one of our best girlfriends, Jade.
What was your biggest challenge moving into this apartment?
Downsizing. Kaleigh and I last lived in a gigantic Upper West Side apartment with ample storage space for three years. So, getting rid of unnecessary belongings and all of our large furniture was a challenge. (Stay tuned for a future blog post about how we pulled it off!)

Where is your favorite place in your home?
I am absolutely obsessed with my bedroom. My last bedroom was massive, so this one feels like a cozy little cave.
What's your favorite item in your apartment?
My dad is a vintage poster collector, and few years ago for Christmas, he gave me posters from the original productions of Cinderella and The Pirates of Penzance. They’re the most special things I own.
How did you find this apartment?
Jade moved into this apartment over a year ago with two of our other close girlfriends. Since then, both girls got married and moved out. So Kaleigh and I conveniently took over their lease! We have always wanted to live in this neighborhood (and with Jade) so it worked out perfectly!
Kaleigh’s Room:
What did you think about when decorating?
Everything. I wanted to create a space that Jade and Kaleigh would absolutely love. We are maximalist girls who love a clean minimalist look. I decided to decorate the living room and Kaleigh’s bedroom with neutral colors, but added in various textures and pops of green foliage to keep things interesting. I am extremely eclectic and love statement pieces, Jade gravitates towards a neutral bohemian vibe, Kaleigh is a happy medium, and luckily, we all love metallics. I started the design process with our living room chair and couch and built out from there. Please excuse my cockiness, but I think I nailed it.
What do you think your home says about you? And how do you want visitors to feel when they walk into it?
I think our apartment is a pretty perfect representation of the three of us. When dreaming about this apartment, I always wanted to create a space that our friends would love hanging out in. I want people to feel like they just walked into a cozy little greenhouse nest.
