On The Road

The idea for this new blog series struck me like a bolt of lightning one afternoon and I have been obsessed with working on it ever since. I was inspired to start On The Road because I first fell in love with theater thanks to my parents and grandparents taking me to see touring productions of Broadway musicals in my hometown.

I still remember seeing Wicked for the first time as a young teenager in Tampa Bay, Florida and being absolutely entranced by the production. My little sister still fondly tells anyone who will listen about how she remembers me leaning over in my seat to whisper in her ear how cool it would be to work on a show like that. Twelve years later I am a member of the Broadway company. It's pretty wild how life works out sometimes.

On The Road is an interview series, shot by local photographers across the country, featuring actors who are currently preforming in Broadway national tours. Practically everyone in the current Broadway company of Wicked was on the national tour before moving to the Great White Way and I've always loved hearing their crazy stories from the road.

Collaborating with so many inspiring actors and talented photographers across the United States has been surreal. (Side note: if you or a photographer you know are interested in working with me on a future On The Road project, just shoot me an email! I would love to collaborate.) I sincerely hope you enjoy the On The Road series as much as I am loving creating it.

Can't wait for you to read the debut post tomorrow!

FUN FACT:

This fun fact isn't theater related but I wanted to share another reason why I decided to name this series On The Road. Jack Kerouac is one of the greatest American writers, a pioneer of the Beat Generation and also one of my all time favorites. He wrote a novel called On The Road about his travels across the country with his friends. If you've never heard of him, I highly recommend checking him out. (While you're at it look up my girl Joan Didion. She's got nothing to do with him. I just love her.)
